2017 has been a busy year for LEVYdance.
In March, the company presented The Invitation: Lies and Other Truths, a collaboration Sara Shelton Mann at ODC. In May, we were featured at the San Francisco International Arts Festival at Fort Mason with Pull Me Closer, a piece that grew out of Comfort Zone, our 2013 interactive installation at the Exploratorium. And in September, we hosted our second residency with 2Faced Dance in preparation for RUSH, our groundbreaking 2019 international collaboration.
To top it off, RUSH was one of 20 projects selected for a National Dance Project grant from the prestigious New England Foundation for the Arts, one of the country’s major sources of funding for dance.
As if that weren’t enough for our small company, we secured a five-year lease extension on our SoMa studio and a generous grant from the Northern California Community Loan Fund, which enabled us to renovate the space and deepen its commitment as a creative hub for the arts in San Francisco:
- In a city where rapid development has led to widespread displacement of artists, LEVYdance champions the next generation of artists by offering the most affordable studio space in San Francisco.
- More than 50% of the artists we serve are people of color, and 75% identify as women.
- Through LEVYsalon, our micro-residency program, we offer free rehearsal space and mentorship, giving independent Bay Area artists of all disciplines the breathing room to take risks as they create new work, and a platform for presenting it at our quarterly showcases.
- Over the last decade, LEVYdance has provided over 4,000 hours of free rentals and supported more than 800 artists, and due to growing demand, we're adding 3 matinée showcases in 2018!
- LEVYdance provides below-market-rate space to all nonprofits, with rates as low as $15 per hour, enabling these groups to deepen their work and continue their mission.
Each time our Company Artists take the stage, a young dancer makes a breakthrough, or a local nonprofit uses our studio, we are reminded of the impact our partnership with donors like you has on the arts landscape here in San Francisco. Your generosity is critical to our mission to serve as a creative incubator, community space and innovative arts presenter. As you consider your year-end donations, we hope you will again support LEVYdance.
Together, we can help San Francisco artists thrive!
