Havenly needs your help more than ever - please help us continue offering our training program next year, as federal funding gets cut.
When Mawazo joined Havenly in 2024, she was a mother of eight who had just arrived in New Haven as a refugee. When she first fled Congo, Mawazo worked as a teacher in refugee camps and schools in Tanzania. When she arrived in the United States in 2019, she had to start over again in a land of unfamiliar language, people, and systems. At Havenly, she reclaimed her dreams, finding joy in becoming a student again in our classroom after so many years of teaching. With the new skills and knowledge she received from our fellowship program, she is now a childcare teacher at Morning Glory Early Learning Center.
Mawazo’s journey is just one of many. Since our founding, we have graduated 107 refugee and immigrant women like her, providing them with education, job training, and a path to independence. In 2024 alone, we trained 46 women, 42 of which have secured jobs, 7 of which have started businesses, and 4 of which are starting a cooperative childcare center for immigrant women.
This is the impact your generosity makes possible.
Education and job training are vital building blocks for refugees and immigrants who are starting a new life in the United States, but they are not guaranteed. As we approach the new year, we’re committed to empowering more women to reclaim their dreams and thrive in their new home. Our federal funding ends next year, and we need your help more than ever to ensure that women seeking refuge can still access the opportunities we provide.
Our goal is to raise $160,000 to fund our next cohort of 20 fellows in 2025, but we need your support to make it happen.
Each fellow's journey costs $8,000, covering:
150 hours of educational classes and workshops
150 hours of paid work experience in our kitchen
Childcare, transportation support, and interpretation services
Essential materials such as laptops, aprons, and books
Every donation helps us train more women like Mawazo who go on to build brighter futures for themselves and contribute to the greater community.
Will you help us reach our goal?
