Update #11

Update posted 9 months ago

Holly, thank you for your generous gift to help people with disabilities gain meaningful employment! It means a lot to me.

I have been privileged enough to work with the Tommy Nobis Center in achieving their mission of helping people with disabilities find employment. It is wonderful to work with people who are so passionate about helping people with disabilities find employment: every person works diligently to advance our mission.

Celebrating 45 years in 2022, Tommy Nobis Center has impacted the lives of thousands of individuals with disabilities along with their families.

In 2023, Tommy Nobis Center served 888 students ages 14-21 in the Early Youth Employment Services (EYES) program. The EYES program is an innovative program supporting students through curriculum on job exploration, workplace readiness, and self-advocacy. This program also provides work-based learning experiences with job shadowing, volunteering, and company tours.

The Academy, a new immersive six-month accelerated vocational training program, had it's first cohort of 15 students start this year! The next cohort started November 1. This program guarantees 100% employment for graduates. The students will do 3 months of curriculum based vocational training, 3 months of internships and community based instruction, and 6 months of employment support. The students benefit through training on-site and in the community. This program results in confidence, self-advocacy, and empowerment!

Tommy Nobis Center recognizes the disparity in the unemployment rates for individuals with disabilities, especially black individuals, with the highest unemployment rate of 12.3%. We are striving to close this gap by ensuring equitable access to employment opportunities and resources. This includes raising awareness and changing mindsets throughout the community and potential employers.

Please donate to the Tommy Nobis Center today and follow along on our social media to watch the magic happen!

$50 will provide classroom supplies for students with disabilities.

$100 creates community engagement opportunities with potential employers through student tours to local businesses.

$250 equips students with job readiness skills through classroom based sessions on resume building, interview practice, and dressing for success!

$500 creates on-the-job, paid training opportunities for students in both our EYES and Academy programs.

$1,000 helps provide 5 students with one week of summer camp!

But give what you can, it all goes toward supporting students with their goals and dreams!

Check out the videos, be inspired, and give what you can!
