Fall, 2018

We are once again reaching out to friends in North America, Europe and around the world to support the unique innovative and compelling work of the Jewish Association of Czulent based in Krakow, Poland.   Please join us!

In 2012, several dozen of us contributed over $10,000 in support of Czulent's project to publish and distribute two new volumes of children's poems and stories for over 1000 young Jewish families throughout Poland.

One volume focussed on Jewish Holidays  and the other on The Alphabet, utilizing original Yiddish texts with a new Polish translation. The books introduced the children (and their parents) to the spiritual values of Judaism and the history of the Jewish people.

We were delighted to learn that The Alphabet Book won the main prize at one of the most important international events dedicated to the children’s publishing industry--the Bologna Children's Book Fair.

In 2015 we raised funds to help publish Yiddish Zoo. A beautifully illustrated book featuring poems that help children explore the Jewish world and shape new ideas about Judaism, contributing to a positive picture of Jewish life in a fun and enjoyable way. The original YIDDISH text appears alongside a POLISH and ENGLISH translation.

Funds raised this year will support Czulent's Book Project as well as other educational programs in Krakow and throughout Poland. Czulent sponsors, in Krakow, the largest Jewish Sunday School in Poland. Their leaders are also involved in various public education and advocacy efforts to build tolerance for Jews and other minorities in Poland.

Czulent Jewish Association was established in 2004 as an independent association of young Jews in Krakow. Members have different interests and views but share the belief that Jewish identity is something precious that needs to be nurtured and strengthened, built on a foundation of pluralism, diversity, openness and tolerance.

See the link below to Czulent's English language website to learn more about this small but extraordinary organization and the special people who lead and participate in its work.
