LAST DAY TODAY!

Update posted 3 years ago

Today is the last day! You all have been so incredible this past month. We have surpassed $1,000 and have kept on going! That is amazing. For those of you that work at the FOC, we are now matching donations $10+. Let's see how much we can raise in the last final hours of this amazing fundraiser! Thank you all again so much for your support. Piglet is very happy to have seen all of you good hoomans come together to help doggos that were just like her. Thank you!

One of my favorite nonprofits, Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (DACC), is here for the Rock Community Challenge this month. All donations go directly to helping DACC purchases harnesses, collars, leashes, heartworm treatments, medications, shampoos, food, training, and adoption events for the animals residing at DACC and in their foster homes.

I can tell you from my personal experience there, is that DACC is doing the absolute best that they can. When I adopted Piglet from the DACC back in May, they provided me with a collar, a harness, a leash, some toys, her medications/shampoo and a 4lbs bag of food. On top of all of that they made sure that she was spayed and microchipped before she was even available for adoption. The volunteer sat with me and we reviewed her medical records and told me all she knew about her. After I signed all the paperwork, they only asked for a donation for her adoption. That’s it! I didn’t have to pay for her if I didn’t want to (don’t worry, I did 😊). They are providing care and shelter to these poor animals before they find loving homes and they only ask for help if you can provide it. That is wild to me.

Piglet was brought into the DACC originally because people were throwing glass bottles at her in the streets of Detroit. She had dermatitis, was missing her undercoat, and was pretty underweight. If it wasn’t for the Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control, I am not sure if she would’ve survived much longer. The DACC helped her get her back on her 4 paws and made sure she went to a loving home. I am just so grateful that she chose mine 😊

Let us, as a community, help bring more of these wonderful stories to life!

More about the Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control

The DACC's Mission: To help Detroit Animals

Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control is committed to saving animals' lives, ensuring equal access to companion animals for those of all socio-economic levels, and raising the level of care for animals living in the city of Detroit. They work hand in hand with Detroit Animal Care and Control to help the homeless animals at DACC and proactively keep animals out of our shelter in the first place.

In terms of donation solicitation and acceptance, their goal is to supplement the budget allocated to the shelter by the city of Detroit. The current budget falls short of what they need to operate a fully functional shelter and the programs they have created. They will do this by applying for grants, holding fundraisers, forming relationships with and stewarding donors and foundations, and accepting all material and in-kind donations from our volunteers and supporters. Like you!
