On March 16th, LSSN implemented an Emergency Distribution Plan to help us follow social distancing and safety guidelines for COVID-19 and be prepared for a potential increase in the need in our community.

In our Emergency Distribution Plan, we decided to serve individuals outside in our parking lot to enable each client to keep six feet of distance between one another and staff members. We adapted our registration process and decided to take only basic information that could be given on the spot, enabling us to serve anyone who came to us in need. Finally, we transformed our current DigiMart from a client-choice, online model to standardized Emergency Boxes, maximizing the number of individuals we could serve in a single morning and ensuring a variety of food for every family visiting LSSN.

Between implementing our COVID-19 Emergency Distributions on 3/16 and 4/16, we served over 1,600 families -- 5,000 individuals. That's over four times the number of families usually served in a given month at LSSN! Every one of those families left LSSN with an Emergency Box to feed their families for the week, filled with canned goods; dried staples like rice, pasta, and oatmeal; vegetables; fruits; breads; meat; and more. In total, over $65 of food is distributed to each family that otherwise would be hungry.

This #GivingTuesdayNow, we are raising $10,000 -- the amount that it takes to create Emergency Boxes of food for the 150 families we see on a single distribution day during COVID-19. Will you stand strong behind LSSN and help us continue to serve and care for our community in need?
