Support Our Immigrant Workers

Last year, our world was devastated by the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the nation came to a standstill in an attempt to slow the spread of the disease, one thing remained clear: Low wage immigrant workers continued to be outside of the purview of most relief efforts. Federal and state protections, from unemployment relief to paid leave, specifically exclude members of Latino Union's worker base, either because of their status as an immigrant or because of the nature of their work. Our workers were thus faced with a potentially deadly choice: Go to work and risk transmitting the disease to their family or stay at home and lose income critical to their ability to pay their rent, utility bills, and keep feeding their families. This "choice" is truly untenable. 

In the face of this increased risk to our communities, Latino Union has set up a fund to support our worker members as they face unprecedented economic struggles. Your support will go towards this emergency fund, which will help our workers maintain their stability in the months to come. El año pasado, nuestro mundo fue devastado por la pandemia Covid-19. A medida que la nación se paralizó en un intento por frenar la propagación de la enfermedad, una cosa quedo clara: trabajadores inmigrantes de bajos recursos continúaron a estar fuera del alcance de la mayoría de los esfuerzos de ayuda. Las protecciones federales y estatales, desde la ayuda por desempleo hasta las vacaciones pagadas, excluyen específicamente a miembres de la base de trabajadores de Unión Latina, ya sea por que son inmigrantes o por la naturaleza de su trabajo. Por lo tanto, nuestres trabajadores se enfrentaron a una opción potencialmente mortal: ir a trabajar y arriesgarse a transmitir la enfermedad a su familia o quedarse en casa y perder ingresos críticos para su capacidad de pagar la renta, las cuentas de servicios y seguir alimentando a sus familias. Esta "opción" es verdaderamente insostenible.

Ante este mayor riesgo para nuestras comunidades, Unión Latina ha establecido un fondo para apoyar a nuestres miembres a medida que enfrentan batallas económicas sin precedentes.
