At Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust, our mission extends beyond chimpanzee care and conservation. 

We are deeply committed to empowering the local community, particularly the children who are the future stewards of Zambia's natural heritage.

Malnutrition remains a significant challenge within Zambia, one of the highest in the world, where 35% of children in Zambia are stunted and 20% are underweight. This issue is more prevalent in rural areas, where 60% of parents have lower levels of education, literacy, and live in impoverished conditions.

The Twampane Community School Feeding Program embodies this commitment by ensuring that every child at Twampane Community School receives a nutritious meal each day, ensuring they have the energy and focus to learn, grow and thrive.

In 2016, the 'Feeding Program' was introduced at Twampane Community School with the aim of supplementing the children's nutrition by providing balanced lunches consisting of Nshima, beans, soya pieces, and a variety of vegetables. We also provide fresh vegetables from our sustainable farm.

For many of these children, this meal is their only reliable source of nourishment, enabling them to focus, learn, and thrive.

Just $76 will feed a child for a year, that's less than $1.50/week!

This vital initiative not only fights hunger but also boosts school attendance and academic performance, fostering brighter futures for these young learners. 

One of our main focuses for the coming year is to enhance our feeding program by introducing breakfast for young students as they arrive at school. We are committed to ensure that the most vulnerable children have access to a nutritious breakfast to meet their nutritional needs in the morning. 

We are also committed to expanding the use of green charcoal to promote sustainable practices and minimise our impact on the Miombo forest.
