In 2004, Innocence Project client Darrill Henry, a father of two young children, was wrongly convicted for the murder of two women in New Orleans. He spent nearly 16 years fighting for his freedom. On May 2020, after the court ruled that the DNA evidence in his case established his innocence by clear and convincing evidence, Darrill walked out of Angola prison, a former plantation, and was reunited with his children, who he saw grow from afar. Months later, Darrill experienced the birth of his first grandchild.
Since his release, Darrill has focused on making up for lost time and experiences. In October, he enjoyed his first birthday celebration in over a decade, surrounded by loved ones in a home he recently moved into.
The State has not yet dropped the charges against him. As he waits to be fully vindicated, Darrill has pushed forward with trying to rebuild his life— a difficult feat after a decade and a half of imprisonment and having everything taken from him.
This holiday season, we are asking our community to help support Darrill. He recently started working, and we are hoping to raise the funds so he can buy a car to get to and from work and to visit with family who live outside of New Orleans. If you have the means, please consider donating to this fundraiser and helping uplift Darrill.
