Building a Better Future Through Education

Education is the foundation of progress. Imagine living in a place where education is said to be important, but the reality is that a lack of resources prevent wide-spread, affordable, quality education opportunities. This is Haiti and this is where Raising Hope Ministries focuses our efforts.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. People live on $2 pr day. When all you have is $2; food, shelter, and clothing take precedence over education.  For years Haiti has been plagued by natural disasters, disease, instability, violence, and food/water insecurity. Children have very little access to quality education. Raising Hope Ministries (RHM) is working to provide access to education so students with the skills, motivation and desire can overcome barriers to learning. 

Right now RHM is supporting 8 young ladies in Port-au -Prince, Haiti with living expenses, tuition and supplies, tutoring, and mentoring. These ladies attend American accredited High Schools to supplement the education they had in the Haitian school system with a goal of gaining admission to a US post-secondary learning program. Seven of the girls are seniors, one is a junior ad two are sophomores. At this time there are 12 additional students working to gain entrance to the program in Haiti. The overarching goal of the RHM education program is to provide an education that these students can use to impact their communities in Haiti, to lead toward progress there, and to overcome the defeat the population feels in the current situation there. 

The girls have been working toward college admission to US institutions, completing applications, essays, language testing and college entrance testing. The support RHM provides allows students to consistently attend school, to have a place to learn, study and live, to enhance critical thinking, problem solving and literary analysis, and to have access to mentors. RHM hopes that by impacting these students, Haitian communities will see increased desire and importance placed on quality education, that change is possible and that victory over circumstances can be achieved.
