Update posted 6 years ago

We're closing in on $5,000, thanks to your generosity. If we can raise $6,000, we can fund education programs for all 10 communities plus send all the young weavers to Encuentro Cultural. The full $15,000 will also help fund a graduate student working as program director for the year.  It's not too late to make a difference, and one of our donors has extended a new $500 match, so please donate now!

Help young Andean weavers sustain their culture and way of life! Donations to this fundraiser support the Young Weavers program at the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco. Young weavers in the communities of the Sacred Valley learn about their textile heritage, studying techniques and history. Through these studies they grow as artisans, gain textile and leadership skills to help support themselves and their villages, and form healthy social contacts within and between communities.

Program activities include studying and reviving endangered weaving techniques, studying ancient Incan and other Andean textiles and designs through classroom work and museum visits, creating traditional clothing, and participating in the bi-annual Tinkuy, an international gathering of weavers hosted by CTTC in Cusco, In 2019, the Young Weavers hope to have enough funds to have their own Encuentro Cultural, a young weavers' conference where they can exchange weaving knowledge from their communities and also build new leadership skills.

A donation of $100 will provide young weavers in one community with fiber arts materials for a year. A $350 donation will provide one community group with materials for fiber arts and traditional clothing. A donation of $250 will send young weavers from one community to Encuentro Cultural.  Donations of any size will help these young weavers to learn and preserve their weaving heritage and the sustainable way of life that depends on it.
