Everything in Oda right now is marked by the fight with COVID in our region.

Nepal has seen a dramatic rise in daily cases and deaths. More than 37% of tests are positive. Yet, we have already had our 20th patient in the COVID-19 Isolation Center and are expecting more. It has become clear that COVID-19 has arrived in our community, with potentially devastating effects, and we are preparing accordingly.

We need to raise $10,000 for crisis mitigation and support of our frontline medical team.

One year into this pandemic, we know what works: prevention of community spread through early detection and action.

1. PREVENTION

Oda Foundation has been collaborating with and supporting local government preventative measures, including masks, awareness campaigns, and COVID-19 prevention.

2. DETECTION

Oda Foundation's Medical Team and the local municipality Rapid Response Team have been operating community trips for testing, leading tests at the Oda Foundation hospital, and initiating Contact Tracing.

3. ISOLATION AND PATIENT CARE

Oda Foundation has set up an isolation unit of 20 beds. Oda Foundation staff also supports Home Isolation patients.

4. CRITICAL CASE MANAGEMENT

Oda Foundation collaborates with our joint Patient Transfer Team and District authority for COVID-19 response, managing transfer of critical cases.

We cannot afford another wave of COVID-19 interrupting our critical medical work.

We serve a remote and impoverished population, where:

- 1/3 patients still have to travel 6 hours to access our clinic

- 1 in 5 women experience 1 or more neonatal deaths,

- and where highly treatable diseases like pneumonia and fever are instead leading causes of death

During last year's COVID wave, we had to delay staff salaries and ongoing operations. We support 50+ staff and workers and have initiatives across livelihood, education, and health. Your support ensures that we move forward on all fronts during this crisis.

A number of our team members have given up blankets for COVID-19 patients in our Isolation Unit to stay warm. They have pulled together community resources to build additional beds.

Donate today and join us in providing life-saving services. Our work is not possible without your support.

Stories from our community

Karan Singh, Oda native, and Oda Foundation Co-Founder and CEO:

"When my father died from pneumonia, and there was no work here in Oda, for my family, our life was blocked by a big wall. There were no medicines for my dad. That is what life was like here. So this is my heart. I donated my father's land so that we had a place to build. Our community wants a better future, too. Our community wants to be happy and healthy."

Amrita Singh, Oda village community member:

"My husband died of a high fever, when there was no treatment near to us. Oda Foundation needed land so that we could have a hospital, so we gave our land, and now it is here, so I am happy for that."

Aryashree Aryal, Oda Foundation Education Manager:

“Oda Foundation is actually life-saving. It is a game-changer. It is rewarding to be here for work that is this important. Change takes a long time, but bringing the community together is the best thing we can do.”

Dudhkala Pariyar, community member and Women's Cooperative founding member:

"My husband passed away - I am a single woman. I make money for the 9 people in my house. Through the Cooperative things, where we save money, single women can get support. We can work and become known for what we do." [photo below of Dudhkala!]
