Celebrating the installation of our First Playground Structure this October!
Through the wonderful donations we have received so far, we are pleased to unveil this October our first new playground structure!
We are now moving on to our next two phases, which will include free standing playground equipment purchases for our children and landscaping that will also serve as a learning garden.
For each contribution of $50 or more, your family name will be displayed on our Virtual Donor's Wall on the school's website.
If you can contribute $200 or more, your family name will be displayed on a beautiful river rock that will mark the path the children will take into the playground.
Contributions of $500 or more will be invited to our Stone Placement Ceremony, and will have the opportunity to place their family name in the path itself.
We are inviting you to take part in an ambitious and much needed playground revitalization project taking place on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center for the Children’s Harbor Montessori School. The playground at CHMS has been well utilized and loved by its students daily for over 40 years. Over time, it has fallen into a state of disrepair and for the sake of safety, playground structures and beloved trees have been removed. It is currently a shadow of the fun and playful space created by the parent co-op that originated the school.
The school community of board members, director, teachers, staff and parents strongly believe in the power and importance of play to our children. Our mission is to create a beautiful space where the students can play, share ideas, and build a stronger sense of community and friendship. We envision new facilities that are safe, durable and create an inclusive playground. In the future we see a sustainable greener space with drought resistant native plants and interactive sensory stations for thought provoking stimulating play.
As a result, we have begun a fundraising effort to raise money to build an outdoor play space for our students that is as beautiful as our new facilities over the next three years. We have already begun our journey to raise $100,000 and have funding for 25% of our total budget. Renovation has begun and we need your help to reach our goal. We are hoping that you would consider generously donating towards our fundraising goal. This kind of donation can only foster a positive and collaborative relationship between you, this wonderful local school and within the Staten Island community. We thank you for your consideration and we look forward to working together on this project.
