It Takes a Village to Care for Great Apes

At the heart of the Center for Great Apes is an extraordinary team—dedicated individuals with unique backgrounds and skills—working together with one mission: to provide the best possible care for the chimpanzees and orangutans who call our sanctuary home.

Our residents come from difficult pasts, including circuses, entertainment, research labs, roadside attractions, and the exotic pet trade. Many arrive with serious health conditions, malnutrition, or social challenges. But thanks to the compassion and expertise of our team, along with proper veterinary care, good nutrition, exercise, and companionship with their own kind, these apes can heal and live dignified lives.

Every staff member plays a vital role in supporting the well-being of our great apes. Our Administrative Team raises funds, manages the sanctuary's operations, and educates our supporters. The Maintenance Team ensures the safety and upkeep of our habitats. And our Ape Care Team—veterinarians, caregivers, nutritionists, and health coordinators—provides personalized care, from daily meals to medical checkups, ensuring each resident thrives.
