support Black futures in the arts: 2023 at the CAS

Help us create a world where Black artists thrive! We are raising money to support four fully-funded artist residencies at the Center for Afrofuturist Studies in 2023. Artists visit Iowa City for three weeks and are provided generous space and logistical support to pursue their research and creative projects. Our innovative approach means that the CAS works extensively with artists prior to their arrival on-site, helps them build local connections, and continues to provide opportunities and support after their residencies.

As part of their community-engaged residencies, each artist leads a free workshop for youth of color and public program for adults.

Funds will also support ongoing community-driven programming centered around the CAS’ reading room space at Public Space One and -- reading groups, artist groups, forums, virtual programs, and other gatherings centered around futurity and building support for artist of color.

Donations of all sizes help us do this essential work -- we need your support to ensure that we can bring the CAS residency into its 7th year!

Also, if we raise $3000 before August 12, we'll be eligible for a grant from the Gannett Foundation that means your donation could go twice as far.
