Although everyone wants and deserves a permanent home, it can take time for someone who is homeless to get on their feet. In the meantime, being able to sleep in a safe place, without fear of arrest, and with access to basic sanitary facilities allows people to keep their dignity and avoid many of the harmful consequences of homelessness, both to the individuals and the environment.
By making it possible for people who are homeless to access existing legal campgrounds, you can provide an option that is safer, cleaner, and legal for households and families that need a temporary place to stay.
Legal camping builds self-sufficiency and supports autonomy, while preventing illegal and unsanitary encampments from developing.
Campers participate in a program of case management to build self-sufficiency and permanent housing. They also provide service to the community and gain valuable employment skills by volunteering at the Compassion Center Day Center.
