Earlier this year, 29:11 Healing & Recovery Center started the John Schubert Scholarship Fund honoring John Shubert who lost his life to substance use. This scholarship allows the center to fund expenses associated with substance use treatment, giving every individual a chance at recovery without the worry of financial barriers.
Arkansas faces significant gaps in substance use treatment availability. This is compounded by financial barriers. Even for individuals who are insured, treatment programs may be too costly or inaccessible. People are turned away from treatment centers daily because of their insurance, or the lack thereof.
I am passionate about this cause because my life has been deeply affected by addiction, and I want to help the world stop the cycle, one person at a time, one day at a time. I have also seen that people can and DO recover.
I believe in the impact of substance use treatment on individuals in recovery, the people in their lives, and the community as a whole, because I have seen it with my own eyes.
This isn't a material or unnecessary investment; these are LIVES being SAVED.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this fundraiser, and for entrusting me to speak my truth.
Your gift will save lives. ❤️
Love always,
Makala Brown
