Hello! I'm Allison Koenig and I am a graduate student studying Speech-Language Pathology at Emerson College. At Emerson, I have worked with individuals with aphasia, an acquired communication disorder usually resulting from stroke or brain injury.  Someone with aphasia may experience impairments in spoken language expression, spoken language comprehension, written expression, and reading comprehension. These impairments can majorly impact a person's relationships, friendships, career, and their ability to participate in their community.  Individuals with aphasia attend speech and language therapy to work on regaining skills and learning compensation strategies.

I am participating in the Fitness for Aphasia fundraising team to raise awareness about aphasia, promote education about how to communicate with individuals with aphasia, and to raise money for the aphasia community. In addition, I plan to complete 150 minutes of cardiovascular activity per week for four weeks (on a grad school schedule? yikes!) to promote awareness for stroke prevention.

Any donation of any amount is appreciated! All of our proceeds will go directly to the American Aphasia Society. Thank you for taking the time to learn about aphasia and how it impacts individuals and their families!
