Lela is fully funded! Thank you to all who donated to make this possible. The next step is for her to be assigned to a class. Once that is done we will have a better idea of our wait until placement. It is expected to be about 2 years.
We are so excited that Lela has been approved for a service dog through 4 Paws for Ability to assist with her mobility and emotional health! In order to be placed on the waiting list we must raise our share of the cost of raising and training the dog. Although $23,000 is a large number, we know that the benefits of a service dog on her independence and well-being are priceless.
I am sure many of you are wondering if this will be a guide dog. Believe it or not, Lela's vision is not her most limiting disability and she really doesn't need assistance in this area. Her struggles with mobility and anxiety have a far bigger impact on her day-to-day life. We believe that once her service dog is placed with her we will see her independence blossom and she will reach even more of her goals.
If you have any questions about 4 Paws for Ability, how a service dog will help Lela, or service dogs in general we are happy to talk to you at any time.
Thank you for your donation!
