Bring Peter & The Wolf to Iowa Kids

Help us bring the arts to classrooms and living rooms across the region.

The arts play a vital role in our lives: inspiring and building confidence and connection in learners of all ages. Now more than ever, we must find new ways to provide accessible artistic programming for our entire community. 

That’s why Ballet Des Moines has partnered with Iowa PBS and Civic Music Association to bring a brand new production of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf to life, specifically created for school-aged children. With thousands of students attending school virtually this fall, this exciting project allows young learners to experience rich artistic programming whether they're in the classroom or at home, completely free and accessible across multiple platforms. (In addition, classroom-ready resources will be available online to accompany the performance, including behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with dancers and musicians.)

Without in-person performances and ticket revenue, we are counting on the generosity of our community to cover the costs of creating this full-length work.

Your donation directly supports our dancers, their costumes and shoes, the musicians, choreography, and production costs including lighting and sets.

While our story helps children identify symphonic instruments and connect with dance as a story telling tool, it also encourages each of us to have the courage to take risks. Peter shows us how to be brave. In unprecedented times, we must all have the courage to be creative and forward-thinking. At Ballet Des Moines, we are not afraid to invest in our community by creating free digital programming, but we need your help.
