Grassroots Fundraiser for Arriba Las Vegas Workers Center

Arriba Las Vegas is a vibrant growing worker center dedicated to social and economic justice. Our mission is to develop, educate, and empower immigrant and worker-led movements for inclusion, dignity, and win justice for all. Leadership development and popular education are the foundation of our direct-action campaign organizing.

Arriba Las Vegas has received a Community Organizing Grant from the Peace Development Fund and all of the money raised from this fundraiser will be added to that grant to help support their organizing in 2020.  Please make a contribution today to support Arriba Las Vegas Workers Center and read more about their work below.

Arriba Las Vegas's work is organized into three member-led committees that drive our campaigns and issues.

The Worker Justice Committee supports workers to successfully recover wages stolen by abusive employers, provides weekly orientations on resources for wage theft recovery, and is leading on a policy campaign to win dignity and respect for day laborers and domestic workers. In 2019, workers developed the Dignity At Work platform as a tool to raise the profile of wage theft, and increase public pressure to ensure the Office of the Labor Commissioner effectively defends immigrant workers.

The TPS committee is made up of TPS holders and their families who are active locally and nationally with the National TPS Alliance, organizing for permanent residency for their families.

In October 2019, the Deportation Defense committee won significant structural change after a two year battle to end the 287g agreement in Las Vegas. Using direct action, organizing and advocacy through inquiry strategies, families impacted by deportation won a suspension of the 287g program, which deputizes local law enforcement to do the work of immigration and customs enforcement. The committee is now organizing for a complete separation of Police-ICE in Las Vegas.

Arriba Las Vegas COVID-19 Response:

"Arriba has rapidly mobilized to care for one another in the case of COVID19. We have expanded to include five new part-time organizing positions for our most active unemployed leaders with developed organizing capacities, focused on organizing domestic workers, unemployment organizing, mutual aid efforts,  TPS workers, and the #HazTeContar Census campaign. Their leadership has allowed us to expand our capacity to transmit essential information and transition our organizing efforts into online platforms. Through the COVID19 Immigrant Family Fund For undocumented workers, we have begun to direct provide financial support for vulnerable immigrant workers. "
