What is Day Spring?
Day Spring was founded by parents of adults with developmental disabilities who were concerned about their children’s future. These individuals wanted more independence and a sense of community, and Day Spring became the answer. For 30 years, Day Spring has provided residential services that go beyond basic needs, offering homes filled with exceptional care, love, and a person-centered approach. Our residential options include 3-person homes, 8-person homes, a 16-unit apartment building, and a Family Home Provider program for those who prefer living with a family rather than roommates.
In addition to residential services, our College for Living program promotes independence through life skills classes and mentoring. This program empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work toward living on their own in a safe, supportive environment. Through our Arts and Wellness program, residents are also exposed to art, culture, and local events, helping them build meaningful relationships and integrate into the larger Louisville community.
Why Day Spring is so Special to Me?
Day Spring has been a huge part of my life for the past year and a half. I’ve worked in several different roles and now serve as the marketing and engagement coordinator. I started out working directly with the residents at our College for Living program, and they’ve become some of the most special people in my life.
In January, I transitioned into Development and marketing. While I was sad to no longer work with them every day, I knew that raising funds and awareness would help create a better life for them and all the residents at Day Spring. As I transitioned out of working at College for Living my relationships with the students also changed, they aren’t just students anymore, they’re my friends!
I believe that all people, regardless of their ability, should have the opportunity to live a fulfilling life filled with growth and happiness. I also believe that society thrives when people of all abilities are embraced and treated as valued members of their community. The students at College for Living and the residents in the other Day Spring programs bring me so much joy. They’re some of my favorite people, and I often learn from them how to live with sincerity, authenticity, joy, and kindness. They also happen to be tons of fun! I wish everyone had the privilege of knowing them!
I’m incredibly thankful that what started as my college part-time job has turned into a passion to work every day to see people with disabilities valued and loved. Please consider supporting Day Spring during Give for Good. Every contribution helps give the people I love at Day Spring continued opportunities to thrive!
Why Does Day Spring Need Donations?
While a portion of Day Spring's revenue comes from government-funded Medicaid, it doesn't cover all our needs, leaving a $500,000 funding gap each year. Many of our programs require 24/7 support, with a 1:1 staff-to-client ratio to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents, which significantly increases personnel costs.
In addition, Day Spring's 7 buildings and 13 acres require ongoing maintenance to provide a clean, safe environment for everyone who calls it home. To continue offering exceptional care and support, we rely on the generosity of individuals to help bridge this funding gap.
