Music Teaching for Peace in Uganda
A nonprofit fundraiser supporting
Shropshire Music Foundation$260
raised by 4 people
$7,500 goal
The Shropshire Music Foundation works with former child soldiers and refugees in some of the world’s most war-torn locations: Uganda, Kosovo, and most recently in Syrian refugee camps in Greece.
SMF establishes music classes for children and trains teenagers from the same communities to teach these classes long-term. All programs are continually supported by providing free instruments, teaching materials, and pedagogical help. Since 1999, SMF has taught 17,000+ young people that through music they can bring healing, hope, and peace to their communities.
This Razoo/Mighty Cause fundraiser will benefit the Shropshire Music Foundation program in Uganda, which has been running since 2007, by expanding the current music classes being offered in schools with additional teacher training, establishing a local SMF program coordinator, and setting up new music classes. Burim Vraniqaj, the Assistant International Program Director, taught 800 students and held concerts the last time he traveled to Uganda. In Summer 2018, Burim will go to Uganda with Ryan Faulkner, a music educator who has worked with SMF in Greece over the past two years.
