When New Voices Magazine began in 1971, it was founded as the Jewish Student Press Service - a wire service that connected independent Jewish newspapers on campuses across the country.

"We build Jews, not buildings!" was a rallying cry of the Press Service's founders, including Vivian Silver z"l. They advocated for a reallocating of funding in the Jewish world: from buildings, to education and other community needs.

Over 50 years later, New Voices Magazine has held onto the tradition of independently publishing journalism, art, photography, and writing... by and for students.

Running on a shoestring budget, we uplift work from Jewish writers across the country, provide intensive training for emerging mediamakers through our yearlong fellowship, and hold an annual conference where students learn from renowned speakers in the Jewish media world.

In a time where power and resources are concentrated in the hands of few, New Voices is not for sale. Our editors, writers, and programs are supported by grassroots funds - by people like you who believe in open, independent publishing.

In these dark times, a place for students to express themselves and connect - free from the influence of megadonors - is more vital than ever. As we welcome a new fellowship cohort, gear up for our annual conference, and work with our student writers on sensitive topics, we need your support.

For 50 years, we've carried on the tradition of the Jewish Student Press Service. Thanks to you, we will carry this legacy forward.
