Dear Friends of Ukraine, 

For nearly 50 years since its formation in 1977, the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS) - UCCA's Washington, D.C., public affairs bureau - has been dedicated to advocating the community’s concerns and being your voice in the nation's capital. UNIS functions include the following:

1. Continually sponsoring “Ukrainian Days” advocacy events in Washington, D.C., allowing Ukrainian Americans from across the country face-to-face with their elected representatives to advocate for increased support for  Ukraine during the war against russian aggression; 
2. Enhancing the community’s advocacy through its #SupportUkraine outreach with elected officials;
3. Tracking legislation that effects Ukraine and our community; 1) designating russia as a State Sponsor of Terrorism 2) successful passage of $61b security assistance to Ukraine in April 2024 3) providing support for russian war crimes investigations in Ukraine 4) designating the current war in Ukraine as genocide 5) promoting increased sanctions against russia6) recognizing the Holodomor as genocide 
4. Strengthening the bilateral relations between the United States and Ukraine;
5. Maintaining active media relations to provide information and in-depth analysis of Ukrainian issues; and, 
6. Providing commentary and analysis on events.

UNIS spearheaded the formation of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus in the House of Representatives in 1997, later joined by the Senate Ukraine Caucus in 2015. Additional legislative accomplishments include rallying support for the enactment of the Ukraine Freedom Support Act (2014), the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (2015), the Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act (2016), and the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (2017).
