It's the hottest, driest time of the year in Thailand, with temperatures regularly in the 90's and 100's. Our Girls' Home, Baan Choo Jai, is located in a small town whose water supply cannot keep up with the heat. This time of year brings water shortages, forcing the house parents and children to regularly ration water. City-wide announcements each week dictate the availability of water for the home.
In an effort to help during these dry times each year, the government has encouraged their residents to build permanent, cement water tanks on their property. These structures can be filled with water from the city's tanker trucks (that draw water from the local rivers). While this water is not safe for drinking or cooking - it can be used for bathing, cleaning, doing laundry, and also to water their gardens and livestock at Baan Choo Jai (which are food sources for the children).
The government has committed to filling the water tanks twice a week during the months that the city water supply is low. While the initial construction is expensive, this tank would provide water for the home for years to come, and insure that their sustainability projects (fish ponds, frog habitats, ducks, and chickens) continue to thrive and feed the children.

$3,500 will cover the cost of the cement, sand, rocks, rebar, waterproofing, water pipes, tap, stairs (so the inside can be cleaned regularly), and a mason to complete the construction. Once we have the funds, the construction can be completed in only 2 weeks!
Will you help us make this project a reality for our girls? Please partner with us to ensure that they have the water they need today - and in the hottest days of each year to come!
