Annie was found a few months ago in San Quintín, MX, which is about 5 hours south of San Diego. A woman was driving on a desolate road in the middle of farmland and saw Annie on the side; she had clearly been hit by a car. She was unable to move. The woman had her animals in the car so she drove home and then came back for Annie. Annie went through 2 unsuccessful surgeries in Mexico before her rescuer reached out to us for help. The vets were saying she would never walk again, that she was depressed and should be put down. We wanted to see for ourselves and agreed to take her in immediately. Her rescuer drive the 5+ hours to our ER vet where Annie was hospitalized for days. We went to visit her at the hospital and could see her determination, everyone fell in love with her, including vet staff, because of it. She was stable but couldn't walk at all, so she was prepared for an FHO surgery. The surgeon said it might not be enough to get her mobile again, but we had to have faith because Annie showed no signs of giving up. Weeks after surgery, she still wasn't showing much improvement in terms of mobility, but she would scoot her body all around and keep up with the pack of dogs in her foster home. She also started showing off her award winning smile- like, all the time. She is the happiest dog you'll ever meet, and if she needed help getting around for the rest of her life, we would have given that to her. But luckily, Annie had other plans. After seeing a physical therapist who said that the opposite back leg was too contracted and probably causing her pain, we decided to amputate that leg to give her other leg the best shot at working again. 1 day after surgery, Annie was walking. She will need PT and more weeks of recovery, but she's a miracle and every reason why we never underestimate a rescue dog.

We are raising funds to pay for Annie's amputation and the weeks of physical therapy that she needs. We have hundreds of dogs in our care right now that also need emergency medical care. Any additional funds raise will go directly to their care. Consider a donation today to support Annie and her friends!
