Hi My Fur Baby Loving Friends!
Many of you know that I joined the Board of Directors of NWA Humane Society for Animals, Inc - Rogers, AR. But you probably also know that I have been a passionate supporter of this shelter for over 20 years! So, for my birthday this year, I am hoping to raise money for our shelter! (And it is the big 6-0!!!)
Some of the reasons I LOVE this shelter:
1. The NWA Humane Society for Animals (NWA HSA) was founded in 1963 (older than me!) and was one of the first Non-Profit shelters in the area. And now is one of the last non-profit shelters. Most other area shelters are municipality or city run shelter.
2. Our shelter strives to be a no-kill shelter! The only animals that are euthanized are court-ordered, have an incurable illness, or not rehome-able, even after considerable effort with working with a trainer and love.
3. Clay Morgan has been the Executive Director (and every other job at the shelter) since I have been in AR - more than 22 years. His commitment and love for the animals and the shelter are awe-inspiring. His goals for the future of animals in NWA and the role our shelter plays in it are visionary and life-changing for our community! Two close in projects that YOU can help with are below:
a. The shelters in our area are completely FULL and it isn't even spring puppy and kitten season, yet! On top of that, adoptions in the area have been extremely low! This creates the over population in our shelters. Unfortunately, many shelters will have no choice but to euthanize. The NWA HSA has been proactive in reaching out to Shelters and Rescue Organizations throughout the country over the last year to find homes for the adoptable animals in our area. We have a Transport Hub that we are operating out of our "old" shelter. Last year, we transported 433 animals from 24 shelters in our area to shelters and waiting adopting families. What a great solution! We are currently in the process of remodeling our old shelter into a Transport Hub which will provide the animals and our volunteer drivers a place to rest, recharge and refuel. When the drivers awake refreshed, the transport van will already be loaded with their pet passengers! Any help you can give is appreciated. Or, if you love to drive, check into being a volunteer driver!
b. Low Cost Spay and Neuter Facility: Boy, is this needed! Animals not being spayed and neutered is a huge contributing factor in shelter overcrowding (and spring puppy and kitten season)! Our vision is to have a low cost spay/neuter clinic near our current facility to offer those services to the public. There is currently no service of this kind in Benton County. Longer term, we also want to offer reduced cost veterinarian care for those on a fixed budget and our Nation's Veterans. Many animals are owner relinquished because of an inability to pay for care.
c. Championing "Adopt, Don't Shop" with friends and family. Many people are choosing to buy a dog or cat and many of those come from puppy mills, instead of "shopping" at a shelter! Any help you can give to spread the word and be our champion is appreciated!
Thank you friends for considering a donation to this really amazing shelter!
XOXO
