Coalition for the Homeless

Because housing is a human right, the mission of the Coalition for the Homeless is to prevent and end homelessness in Louisville through advocacy, education, and the coordination of our 40+ member agencies. 

We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. This year, with the support of our donors, we celebrated these wins:

• Our Coordinated Shelter Access team served over 4,500 people in crisis to help them access shelter and other resources.

• Our Continuum of Care was awarded $17 million in annual HUD funding, mostly for supportive housing, which has a 97% success rate of keeping people housed over the past decade here.

• We mobilized the community to send over 8,200 emails and 500 postcards to elected officials to communicate that housing is the answer to homelessness, not criminalization.

• We expanded our New Path Home series of recommendations for ending homelessness in Louisville and launched a series called Path to Action, where we dismantle myths and facts about homelessness.

Who We Are

The mission of the Coalition for the Homeless is to prevent and end homelessness in Louisville through advocacy, education, and the coordination of our 40+ member agencies. We have been the lead advocate for Louisville's homeless since 1986, when we were founded after several people died on Louisville's streets.

The Coalition helps coordinate the efforts of dozens of organizations in our compassionate city who are working with thousands of local homeless and vulnerable individuals. Our partners provide housing, food, clothing, health care, counseling, and legal services to the homeless. Our role is to evaluate the needs of the homeless and of our agencies, to identify and address gaps in services community-wide, and to implement smart, long-term solutions.
