Texoma Alliance to Stop Abuse (TASA) is dedicated to ending family violence in Wilbarger, Hardeman, and Foard counties. We are accomplishing this goal by providing free support services to survivors, educating the public about family violence,  and by providing a Battering Intervention and Prevention Program for offenders. Recently, we recognized the urgent need for more comprehensive support for survivors of sexual assault in our three counties. With this in mind, our Board of Directors voted last year to expand our services to include sexual assault victims. We will now offer the same free and confidential services to both sexual assault and domestic violence victims.   We need your help to keep up this important work!

TASA was started in loving memory of five-year old Kati Earnest who died at the hands of her mother's abuser. We began operations in September of 2013 with the opening of our batterer intervention and prevention program. Since then over one-hundred men have participated in our twenty-seven week course that is aimed at reorienting the thinking and behavior of men who abuse. Our program uses a nationally recognized curriculum that has proven successful for over two decades. This program is bearing fruit in the form of safer families where violence and abuse are no longer the norm.

TASA’s services are desperately needed in our community since none of our local law enforcement agencies receive funding to employ a victim advocate. Frequently, after a violent event, victims are left traumatized and have nowhere to turn for support. TASA bridges this gap by working hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies to provide victim assistance services within twenty-four hours of a family violence crime being reported. These services include risk and needs assessments, safety planning, counseling, legal advocacy,  transportation to nearby family violence shelters, and limited financial assistance to help victims begin a new life free from abuse.

In 2018, TASA helped create the first ever Domestic Violence High Risk Team (DVHRT) in the Texoma area. This team, which seeks to provide effective interventions for high-risk domestic violence victims, is composed of prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates, and shelter representatives. With our implementation of sexual assault services, TASA will now give the same focus to sexual assault cases in our covered area by participating in our local Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).

We need your help to maintain these critical services. Please consider making a donation to help us in our mission. Together we can create a community free from domestic violence and sexual assault.
