The mission of St Luke's Home is to provide quality of life for low-income elders to age with dignity in an assisted-living community.

At St. Luke's Home, our mission is to provide quality of life for low-income elders to age with dignity in an assisted living community. Our community has been a trusted resource to the Tucson community for the past century, beginning as a sanatorium for men struggling with Tuberculosis. In the 1980s, St. Luke's Home was renovated and converted into an assisted living facility for low-income older adults in need. Today, our home holds 64 units and supports an average of 72 low-income Elders per year, 75% of whom live below 80% of Area Median Income and are considered to be low-income or extremely low-income.

Katy shares that her housing situation prior to coming to St. Luke's Home was incredibly challenging. She recalls, "I pretty much lost everything due to robberies. I had almost nothing left but the clothes on my back and my medication." However, since moving into St. Luke's Home and a newly renovated room just a few months ago, she has found herself surrounded by "new" items, as many people generously offered her things. Katy notes, "This is the best-dressed I've ever been." She expresses deep gratitude for her neighbor, who has welcomed her and provided valuable assistance.

Before becoming a part of the St. Luke's Home community, Katy had been living on her own for three years, experiencing isolation. She acknowledges the detrimental impact this had on her mental health, especially as she had battled depression from time to time. Being at St. Luke's Home has made a significant difference in her life. She now enjoys engaging in crafts and puzzles, which she couldn't do before due to her puzzles being stolen. "There are activities I can participate in, I can help with decorating, and I really enjoy the bingo."

Katy, who worked as an RN and had visited many assisted living communities in the past, initially held a negative view of them, describing them as "awful." She was reluctant to join one. However, upon her arrival at St. Luke's Home, she was pleasantly surprised. She exclaimed, "Holy cow! It's like a resort hotel here. All the light, the high ceilings... It's really, really beautiful." She also appreciates the fact that she no longer has to worry about cooking. "The food is truly excellent. It's like going to a restaurant for every meal. I'm thoroughly impressed."
