St. Louis Community Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The St. Louis Community Foundation was founded in 1915, less than one year after the first community foundation was established in Cleveland, Ohio. There are now over 800 community foundations in the United States that collectively manage more than $40 billion in assets and distribute some $2 billion a year in grants.

While each community foundation shares a common beginning, we have each evolved in response to our specific community needs. In St. Louis, we've leveraged our unique capabilities as a community foundation to promote charitable giving. We remain grounded in our historic commitment to serve donors and ensure that their dollars work in line with the goals that are important to them. The St. Louis Community Foundation has granted more than $1 billion to nonprofit, scholarship, and employee care recipients since the 1970s.

The Foundation is as an unbiased, technically astute, and collaborative charitable giving resource. As expert administrators, we use the knowledge we've cultivated with decades of practical experience serving St. Louisans.

Our expertise promotes effective charitable giving. We serve our donors and community for an equitable and vibrant region. We are committed to our fundamental roles of helping donors create personal legacies, investing donor funds for maximum returns with minimum risk, and playing a leadership role in tackling our communities' most challenging needs.

Donations to the St. Louis Community Foundation on Give STL Day are used for general support.
