Somos Familia

Help Keep Somos Familia's Doors Open!

Somos Familia is a community-based organization started by two friends who wanted to make the world safer and more accepting for our Latinx Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) youth and their families. Our community volunteers provide peer support and education programs, such as workshops on acceptance, gender and sexuality terminology, and being an ally. Each year, we reach hundreds of childcare providers, community-based organizations, school staff, youth, and parents. Our community-building events provide safe spaces for families with LGBTQ+ children to come together and support one another, as well as spaces for queer and trans Latinxs to provide each other mutual support. We also develop and disseminate critically needed bilingual education materials, which are used in several countries.

About the Campaign:

From May 1st to May 31st, we are raising funds to ensure that Somos Familia can continue its vital work supporting LGBTQ+ Latine/x youth and their families. Our fundraising goal is $20,000, and every donation, no matter the amount, will help us reach this goal.

In partnership with the Horizons Foundation, we have the opportunity to maximize our fundraising goal through cash bonuses distributed by Horizons Foundation. This year marks the last year of Give OUT Day; unfortunately, Horizons Foundation no longer has the funding to continue the program. Therefore, this is our final chance to maximize these resources and secure the future of Somos Familia.

SOMOS ELLES: A youth organizing program for emerging young leaders demonstrating a commitment to advancing social justice and equity for LGBTQ+ youth.

GRUPO DE APOYO FÈNIX: Established in 2019 A support group by and for Spanish-speaking transmasculine identified individuals.

SOMOS AMOR: A support group by and for Spanish-speaking families with LGBTQ+ loved ones.
