Operation Homefront

Operation Homefront's mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families so they can thrive, not simply struggle to get by, in the communities - OUR communities - they have worked so hard to protect.

Founded in 2002, Operation Homefront has been serving and supporting our nation's veteran and active-duty military families nationally for over 20 years. We provide relief and recurring family support programs throughout the year to help our servicemembers, veterans and their families overcome short-term difficulties, so they don't become long-term hardships. 

A key aspect of our mission is to ensure that military families have access to the support and resources they need to stay strong, stable, and secure in the face of adversity. As a military family support organization, we strive to provide respect and understanding to our military families while ensuring that all families in need of assistance receive it. The result: stronger, more stable, and more secure military families. Our programs include:

CRITICAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM® and HOUSING

Critical Financial Assistance Program® : CFA provides short-term financial help for military families facing financial hardship.  Families receive support for, but not limited to, food, utilities, home repair, and rent/mortgage payments. 

Housing: Transitional Housing programs are designed to help service members, who have served honorably, and are currently transitioning out of the service. Service members are eligible for up to three years post-discharge. The program offers temporary, rent-free housing as well as financial education and support services to help families work toward self-sufficiency. Our Permanent Homes for Veterans program provides veterans with the opportunity to receive a donated, mortgage free home after successful completion of the two-year program. The success of our housing programs has empowered families to achieve significant financial milestones such as improved credit scores, paid-off debt, have emergency savings and for many are often prepared to purchase a home of their own. 

RECURRING FAMILY SUPPORT (Annual Family Events)

These programs support families during two specific times of the year when expenses increase significantly. 

Back-to-School Brigade® : Backpack and school supply collection and distribution. 

Since inception Operation Homefront has distributed more than 550,000 backpacks to military children. Together with corporate partners such as Dollar Tree Inc. and others, as well as generous individual donors, children of military families are provided backpacks and school supplies enabling them to start off strong and prepared. Equally as important the program relieves parents of the financial burden where due to inflation and in most cases where families have multiple children in the home, the cost of school supplies and backpacks adds up and can be substantial. Operation Homefront plans to distribute 700+ backpacks with school supplies to children in Glendale, Yuma and Tuscon in 2025.

Holiday Meals For Military®: Distribution of shelf stable food kits of various kinds, grocery gift cards allowing families to purchase holiday meal items of their choosing, and toys. 

This program began in 2010, and since that time more than 750,000 individual family members have benefited from Holiday Meals For Military®. The holidays can be a difficult time as families are often separated due to deployments, are living long distances away from home and loved ones and may be transitioning into a new community where they don't quite have a support system. Our holiday program is yet another way Operation Homefront recognizes and understands the challenges families face financially and otherwise. In 2025 we'll serve 300+ families, distributing holiday meal items and other donations to servicemembers in Glendale and Tucson. 

Star-Spangled Babies®: Distribution of much-needed baby items.

Star-Spangled Babies® began in 2008 to support expectant or new military mothers. Generous donors give both monetarily and in-kind items of all kinds bringing moms together in celebration of their new baby. Often due to servicemembers living apart from family and loved ones, mothers regularly share that without the Star-Spangled Babies® event, they would not have otherwise had a shower. This event not only helps relieve the significant financial burden of a new baby, these deserving women leave with carloads of gifts, new friends and support. 

Operation Homefront is an organization that helps military families overcome challenges by connecting them with valued and life-changing programs and family events. By providing this support, Operation Homefront aims to create stronger, more stable, and more secure military families.
