Charis Circle's mission is to foster sustainable feminist communities, work for social justice, and encourage the expression of diverse and marginalized voices.
Charis is proud to serve as a multi-racial and multi-gendered popular education center for all people seeking to dismantle white supremacy and racism within themselves, their communities, and this nation. We believe there can be no liberation for LGBTQ people without liberation from white supremacy and center much of our work and our programming around that fight through a queer and feminist lens.
At this moment when trans children and teens are under attack right here in Georgia and around the U.S. we have invested even more of our energy and resources in supporting the health and well-being of trans kids, teens, parents, and adults. We host 7 support groups each month devoted to trans people in addition to being the South's premier destination for trans authors to celebrate their books.
Thanks to the support of queer and feminist community members around the world we have been able to continue to do our necessary popular education work throughout the pandemic with minimal disruption and have begun hosting in-person/virtual hybrid events so that we don't lose our international community as we return to in person offerings for our local community. You can access our support groups and feminist community building literary events online as well as our major author events. For the most up to date calendar please visit: www.charisbooksandmore.com/event
For Give Out Day we are raising a minimum of $5,000 to fund the next quarter of Charis Circle community programming. Now more than ever we need spaces to strategize, organize, connect, and dream the feminist future we all deserve. Please consider making a gift in honor of a fabulous feminist in your life or in memory of a queer or trans ancestor who shaped the world in the direction of justice. No gift is too small to help in this fight!
Together with our partner, Charis Books and More, we continue to host more than 270 events a year in four primary content areas:
FROM MARGIN TO CENTER LITERARY PROJECT
Building on Charis Books and More’s decades-long commitment to independent and marginalized voices, Charis Circle’s literary project seeks to expand existing notions of literature, test cultural and discipline-based boundaries and traditions, cultivate written experimentation, encourage discourse between schools of thought and between the academy and the streets, and build audiences for live literary experiences. With a primary focus on diverse and marginalized voices, FMC is a cutting-edge literary project that works to build a place at the table for all artists and writers.
FOUNDING THE FUTURE OF FEMINISM PROJECT
The FFF project works to build a sustainable and dynamic feminist movement facilitating regional networking and program development that challenges and seeks to dismantle all forms of oppression through an intersectional feminist lens. We organize around a philosophy of wholeness, believing that all people have a right to be self-determining across the entire spectrum of their lives.
URBAN SUSTAINABILITY AND WELLNESS PROJECT
This project is designed to introduce community members to resources and programs that promote a healthy, vital, and sustainable world which rejects the dominant ideology of scarcity and promotes mutuality and sufficiency beyond capitalist models.
STRONG FAMILIES, WHOLE CHILDREN PROJECT
This project is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of strong, healthy, and whole young people (and the people who love them) who are committed to gender justice beyond the binary, dismantling white supremacy, and caring for our world.
