BRAVO has been working within and on behalf of the Ohio LGBTQI communities since 1996.  BRAVO works to eliminate violence perpetrated on the basis of sexual orientation and/or gender identification, domestic violence and sexual assault through prevention, education, advocacy, violence documentation and survivor services, both within and on behalf of the LGBTQI communities.

 

We provide a comprehensive approach to hate crimes, intimate partner violence and sexual asasult. All of our services are free and confidential.  Our services and programs include:

• Crisis intervention
• Legal, Medical, and Law Enforcement Advocacy/Accompaniment
• Documentation of Hate Crimes, Domestic Violence, and Sexual Violence
• Judgment-Free Support for You, Your Family, and Your Friends
• Links to Local Law Enforcement Officials and Attorneys
• Community-Wide Education
• Self Defense Classes & Support Groups

 

Every year, BRAVO works with over 200 survivors and provides over 100 trainings.  Through your generosity, you are helping to provide hope and empowerment to LGBTQI survivors of violence by supporting BRAVO's direct services for survivors.  Additionally, your donation works to improve the experiences of LGBTQI community members when seeking services from police or other agencies through supporting BRAVO's training and community awareness programs.

Ways your donation supports BRAVO and LGBTQI survivors:

$10 pays for bus passes for survivors to get to shelter

$40 pays for 100 safety whistles (BRAVO's signature outreach item - we gave out over 5,000 last year!)

$150 covers the cost of providing 1 month of helpline services

$200 pays for 1 day of court advocacy (average case can involve 3 trips to court)

$250 covers the expenses to provide a training workshop for law enforcement and other service providers

$500 covers the cost of providing a self-defense class

 

Everyone deserves to live a life free from violence, to feel safe in their homes and their communities, and to be accepted and celebrated for who they are.
