About World Child Cancer USA

World Child Cancer is dedicated solely to helping children with cancer in the developing world.  We work to improve cancer diagnosis, treatment and care by removing the barriers to effective care.  Childhood cancer is becoming an increasingly urgent problem in developing regions, and yet it remains significantly under-funded and under-resourced by local governments, international funders and philanthropic institutions.  World Child Cancer USA started program operations in 2015 with a focus on Mexico.

World Child Cancer is one of the only organizations in the world to focus on helping children with cancer in the developing world.  Of the approximately 200,000 children diagnosed with cancer annually around the world, 80% live in low/middle income countries, which have the fewest resources to diagnose and treat children or provide effective pain management.  The proportion of children surviving cancer in low/middle income countries can be as low as 10%.  In many places, there are significant barriers to providing cancer care, such as late detection and diagnosis, few or no referral mechanisms to specialized care, a chronic shortage of trained medical professionals, and limited access to cancer treatment and palliative care, including pain relief.   That is where World Child Cancer comes in.

Our vision, is to see a world where every child has access to cancer treatment and care.

Did you know?

  • Each year, 200,000 children develop cancer worldwide.80% of those children live in low or middle income countries.
  • Approximately 100,000 children in developing countries are dying needlessly every year
  • Survival rates for childhood cancer are 10%% in low income countries compared to 80% in high income countries like the US.
  • Childhood cancer is curable even in resource poor countries. It's possible to raise the survival rate from 10% to 60% with relatively inexpensive drugs and simple procedures.

Meet Maria: A seven-year old patient at our project in Mexico

Maria was diagnosed with leukemia and was forced to stop her treatment due to the high cost of drugs as her family was very poor. Through the excellent work of social workers, Maria returned to the hospital and now she is now doing well. Thanks to World Child Cancer's support, Maria was able to continue her treatment and thrive. Your donations help children like Maria access cancer treatment and care. Please join us to make sure all kids have access to life-saving treatment, regardless of where they live.   #letseventheodds
