Founded in 1945, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra (WSO) provides Wichita and south-central Kansas with a broad range of cultural, educational, and entertaining concerts and activities noted for their level of excellence. The organization has become one of Kansas’ most active professional performing arts organizations with a season that runs from September through early June.

The Symphony’s public performances attract people from throughout the region and beyond to the heart of downtown, thereby contributing to the vibrant economy and the vitality of Wichita. The Symphony offers a diverse range of programming intended to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. Programming for the 2014-2015 season will include eight pairs of Classics, three Pops, one Blue Jeans, two weeks of Young People’s Concerts serving over 20,000 children, about three dozen quartet performances in elementary schools, and two free community concerts: Spirit of the Season and RiverFest. In addition, the WSO operates the Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestras, three ensembles offering a high quality educational experience to 225 young musicians.

With a recent broadening of programmatic offerings and the inclusion of mixed media and video components from time to time, the Wichita Symphony is experiencing a surge in attendance and audience engagement. The level of artistic excellence is truly among the finest of regional orchestras in the United States and a source of community pride.
