Create Safe Space for LGBTQ Youth! The Wanda Alston Foundation is working on creating that safe space for homeless or at-rish lgbtq youth! Existing city shelters are often hostile environments for lgbtq youth in the DC metro area. Our go is to open a second house, an emergency shelter available 24/7 for young people who need a safe space, whether forced to leave their homes or choosing to leave an unhealthy situation.  This emergency shelter will fill in the gap between these youth and our currently successful transitional housing program, the Wanda Alston House. Just in the past year, youth in our existing program have returned to high school and graduated, another found stable employment and housing and others have enrolled in college and continued to grow.  We ask for your contribution to help us achieve our next goal, the creation of a safe emergency shelter for homeless or at-risk lgbtq youth.
