Texas Christian Homeschool Prom, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

Texas Christian Homeschool Prom is one of the highlights of the year for home schooled high-school students in North Texas and beyond. Each year, parents of all the home school promgoers work together to create a stellar event. Without a typical school budget or staff, the parents become the prom committee. They work throughout prom season to host dance lessons, work on keepsakes, build the incredible sets that make our prom second to none, sew, sort, stack, and serve on prom night. And a few dozen jobs in between.

In 1999, the idea of prom began as a gift to a pair of homeschooled seniors from their moms, with the first prom being hosted in spring of 2000. Christian Homeschool Prom served the North Texas community until 2010.

In 2010, the originators transitioned their roles to new directors to create the current organization, Texas Christian Homeschool Prom, Inc. The event has blossomed into the most popular single event of the year for homeschoolers in the North Texas area, growing from just under 1000 students in 2010 to hosting over 1,900 students in 2019. There are also students who come back to Texas to be part of prom after their families have moved away. New friends also join us from many of the southern states and as far away as Alaska, Illinois, California, Germany, France, and South Africa.

Each year's theme includes some educational aspects (after all - we are home educators!) and we publish information about dance etiquette, formal attire, and interesting facts related to the theme. Some of our recent themes have included taking students on L'Aventure (the World's Fair in Paris over 100 years ago), The Trek (fantasy worlds in literature, film, and books), and The Jubilee (Queen Victoria's Jubilee with special entertainment by PT Barnum and his oddities). Our 2021 prom will be a Return to Narnia on April 24, 2021 in Frisco TX.

Our Needs

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our primary 2020 spring event and several of the dance lessons were postponed, then rescheduled for mid-summer, then finally cancelled due to social distancing restrictions in place. This has created a financial shortfall for the 2020 budget since many funds were spent in anticipation of the event, then refunding student ticket fees and other purchases when the 2020 event did not happen. We are also looking for parents (of current high school students who are homeschooling) that wish to take on leadership roles in several areas, preferably an area in which they have already served this organization as a volunteer.
