Tour for Diversity in Medicine

A nonprofit organization

Conceived by former medical student leaders, T4D is a grassroots effort to educate, advise, and inspire future Underrepresented Minorities (URM) health professionals with terminal degrees. T4D seeks to bring pre-health enrichment activities to the very campuses that house potential future minority health professionals. With its face-to-face programming, T4D provides groups of unexposed students a chance to learn from and meet with visiting physicians, dentists, pharmacists and medical students at their home institutions and without any financial burden. Having recently expanded significantly through virtual platforms, T4D provides initial and honest exposure to careers in the medical field and opportunities for their educational and professional advancement.

Our T4D Mentors are our true strength - included are young practicing physicians (allopathic, osteopathic, and podiatric), dentists, and pharmacists, as well as medical and dental students, from different educational backgrounds, with different specialty interests and with a variety of dual degrees. Our Mentors from around the nation who have inspiring stories and are keenly invested in mentoring and reaching students on a personal level.

Since our inaugural Tour in February 2012, T4D has successfully:

  • hosted more than 3500 diverse high school and college students on 43 academic campuses across 27 states and the District of Columbia.
  • hosted more than 2000 students since April 2020 from around the globe through virtual programming.
  • Presented our work at various research conferences and published data from our focus groups in Academic Medicine.
  • Served as sponsoring faculty with Mayo Clinic for Pathways to Physician Diversity: A National Summit, 2018 and 2020.
