ABOUT US

Three Dollar Bill Cinema provides access to films by, for, and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people and their families, and a forum for LGBTQ+ filmmakers to share and discuss their work with audiences. We curate themed screenings throughout the year and produce programs in partnership with other arts, cultural, and service delivery organizations in the Greater Seattle area.

Our programs include Seattle Queer Film Festival, Translations: Trans Film Festival (one of a few in the world!), OUTdoor Cinema, Reel Queer Youth, and year-round LGBTQ+ events.

Three Dollar Bill Cinema has a special place in Seattle's art scene. It is the only queer LGBTQ+ cinema organization run by and for LGBTQ+ artists, filmmakers, educators, activists, youth, and volunteers. We are supported by the larger LGBTQ+ community and our allies. Our goal in the next few years is to cultivate LGBTQ+ talent, expand creative ideas in programming, and broaden outreach to new audiences.

MISSION

Three Dollar Bill Cinema fosters deeper community engagement by showcasing queer film programming, educational experiences, and social dialogue. Our vision is to elevate the spectrum of queer stories to help create a just and equitable world.

INFORMATION

As we continue to bounce back from the pandemic and navigate a very crowded fundraising season, we at Three Dollar Bill Cinema, Seattle’s longest running queer film institution, are asking friends, fans, and supporters to Give Big for our 28th year!

Anyone who donates over $60 will receive a one-year Three Dollar Bill Cinema Membership. Donors over $110 have the option to receive a dual membership (for two people).

With a renewed focus on local filmmaking and educational opportunities for filmmakers, here are a few of the exciting programs TDBC has launched/is launching for 2023:

  • In February of 2023, TDBC launched its Queer Accessibility Screenwriting Group, where queer screenwriters from across the PNW and beyond meet weekly via Zoom to write, discuss their projects, and collaborate with fellow queer artists

  • In May of 2023, TDBC is launching its Three Dollar Salons, FREE monthly workshops featuring amazing special guests and informative topics for young filmmakers

  • TDBC has expanded its Reel Queer Youth program to encompass two (2) additional days, allowing the young filmmakers more time to bring their projects to life

Three Dollar Bill Cinema produces: TRANSlations: Seattle Trans Film Festival, OUTdoor Cinema, Reel Queer Youth, Seattle Queer Film Festival, the Queer Accountability Screenwriting Group, and Three Dollar Salons (coming May 2023).

While our attention is focused solely on 2023, we’d be remiss if we didn’t take time to celebrate some incredible accomplishments from TDBC’s previous year:

  • TDBC was the recipient of a $100,000 ARP grant from National Endowment for the Arts

  • TDBC was the recipient of the inaugural $25,000 Community Accelerator Grant, distributed by ArtsFund via the Paul G. Allen Foundation

  • Over 55,000 social media impressions; over 56,000 website views; over 200,000 newsletter impressions made with a 34% open rate; over 300,000 sponsor impressions across the board

  • TDBC continued its mission towards accessibility with over 90% of its films subtitled

  • TDBC expanded its footprint across Seattle to places like Columbia City and Alki Beach

  • TDBC partnered with Elsom Cellars for an exclusive “Queer As A Three Dollar Bill” wine, available to purchase at the venue or on their website
