The Omaha Freedom Writers Foundation Inc

The Freedom Writers Institute is based on Erin Gruwell and her students, the Freedom Writers. If you have not watched the movie, you are missing out. Ms. Gruwell trains teachers to inspire their students to go beyond the classroom. Her teachings relate to social justice issues and focus on encouraging at-risk students to have a better future. Teachers who have gone through this training bring speakers into the classroom, such as Holocaust, Civil-Rights, and Refugee speakers. Teachers also work with students in the classroom to help create an open-minded community. In the future, our organization would like to continue to fund these amazing speakers, help to assist teachers with classroom material needs, provide more opportunities for our students include field trips to local, national, and international museums, and provide continuing professional development for our teachers.
