Fifteen year-old Javier says, “I want to help people. I want to be a doctor.” Like other child refugees arriving unaccompanied from Central America, Javier has been harboring a dream in the face of life-threatening danger and extreme poverty. He believes that in America he will find a good life. If he works
hard at learning English and sticks to his studies, he is convinced that his future as a doctor will be secured.

Dozens of minors from Central America, some as young as four years old, are finding their way to the embrace of the Guatemalan Maya Center in Lake Worth. The small, cramped building is overflowing with children and their families seeking legal help, health care, assistance with school registration and, most desperately, with learning English.

We are writing to ask you to join those who have already sent donations in response to the many recent stories about the work of the Guatemalan-Maya Center in the regional and national press.

Javier’s story is one of more than a hundred stories of those who are finding new lives and new hope in South Florida.
They are escaping destitute poverty and gang violence to bring their loved ones together in safety here. The families served by the Guatemalan-Maya Center in Lake Worth are the hardworking people who pick crops in our fields, who work in our restaurant and hotel kitchens, and who landscape our yards, neighborhoods and corporate buildings.

The United States was been a beacon of freedom for oppressed peoples since its founding. The Guatemalan-Maya Center is honoring America’s promise with the comprehensive support it offers to immigrants in Palm Beach County and throughout the US where migrant farmworkers travel to find work. Whatever they need and wherever they come from, the Center finds a host of ways to help families reunite and start new lives.

One hundred percent of your gift will be used to
expand the education, healthcare and legal services that will support their success.

Thank you in advance for your support.
