The Collaboratory Preparatory Academy

The vision of The Collaboratory is to create a place where students thrive in a supportive and challenging environment that develops character driven, culturally literate, life-long learners who bring value to their community. Students have a wide variety of aptitudes and learning styles that cannot always be maximized by the traditional classroom setting. The Collaboratory was created to ensure that students in a low socioeconomic area would have the opportunity to go to school in a place that speaks to their personal learning style. This will be a place where high academics are not compromised but are delivered in a manner that excites and engages every learner. In order to so, learning will be a collaborative experience between teacher and learner and between learner and learner. The learners will be in the middle of the learning and not only be a part of, but will be driving the learning experience.

For sixteen years, Dayspring Academy has served an underprivileged population through this creative collaborative style of learning and has met overwhelming success year after year. We intend to recreate this model to allow more students to benefit from an environment that concentrates on the whole child. Dayspring provides real-life, hands-on, exploratory learning to their students with the goal of instilling a lifelong love of learning that will produce a driving vision and an inner sense of purpose.

The Collaboratory will focus on five areas: creativity, collaboration, customization, content, and character. These elements will be interwoven throughout every day and every activity. Along with our 5 C’s, The Collaboratory will ensure that each decision, each curriculum piece, each program will have meaning and will be measured. Programs will not be fad driven but research driven. The saying goes, “what gets measured gets done.” Data will be collected and analyzed on a regular basis to ensure that learning modifications are made, if necessary, to ensure maximum results.

The Collaboratory will exist to give students a safe place to explore their highest potential. The learning will be personal but collectively the student body will grow together to love learning and to lead others to do the same.
