Every Year thousands of military service people are faced with the concern of what to do with their personal dogs while they are in training, deployed, on TDY assignment or in the hospital. Some of our country's heroes have family members who are willing and able to care for their dogs while they are on active duty. Many others, however, don’t have that option. Absent a viable boarding alternative, a large number of our US soldiers wind up making the gut wrenching decision to turn their canine companions over to nearby shelters, usually never to see them again. Knowing how much sacrifice is already involved in being a member of our armed forces, at the Barking Barracks, identified a way to help our service people say one less "goodbye". The Barking Barracks is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that provides mid-range and long - term boarding options for our service peoples' dogs at little to no cost, while their active duties take them away from home. This allows them to serve a bit more worry free, knowing that their best friend is well cared for and waiting for their return. In addition the Barking Barracks is a community of helping others, therefore, we will, whenever possible seek US veterans to fill our volunteer and paid positions. We feel there is special synergy when US veterans at home are helping active service members while they are still away.
