HELP FEED CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN NEED
Tabitha’s Way Local Food Pantry was founded in June of 2010 in Spanish Fork, Utah, with the purpose of helping low to moderate-income families and individuals going through tough times by; providing temporary food assistance, recommending resources for self-reliance, and encouraging neighbors to help neighbors. In 2016, Tabitha’s Way opened a second pantry in American Fork, Utah.
Hunger is a foundational problem – without addressing it, many of the other challenges faced by our society, from education to employment to poverty, are simply insoluble. In any given year, almost 49,000,000 people across the United States are faced with hunger or food insecurity, while at the same time we, as a nation, throw away enough food to meet the need for assistance 10-20 times over.
Food pantries play an essential role in “rescuing” nutritious foods from being discarded and distributing that food to individuals and families that otherwise could not afford to purchase. With this approach, our Pantry Feeding Program is highly efficient in that we are able to provide a meal at the cost of fewer than 20 cents.
CLIENT STORIES
A local family faced both emotional and financial hardships when their son tried to take his own life. They incurred many additional expenses while finding the help their son needed. The family came to our pantry and was able to get the food they needed and help to find additional resources to help get them back on their feet again. Another client recently found it difficult to purchase food after her abandoned daughter and autistic grandson moved in with her. With extra mouths to feed, she needed help while her daughter adjusted to becoming a single mother, finding a new job, and getting the support needed to take care of her son. Coming to our pantry helped alleviate some of that stress and ensured the family they would have sufficient food during their tough time.
A gentleman who was a truck driver by trade was involved in an accident that resulted in a fatality. Emotionally, he couldn’t face driving as his source of income again. Although he received the benefit of Worker’s Compensation, it was only 65% of his average wages. With a 35% shortfall in income, he needed our help. We provided the food he and his family of four needed and shared a resource that could help him establish a new career path. These stories are but a few of the many we see, typically 80+ families receive food assistance through our pantry feeding program daily.
