Star Saving the Animals of Rowan Inc

STAR – Saving The Animals of Rowan is a foster based, volunteer, animal rescue organization located in Morehead, Ky.

Since its inception in 2004, we have changed our ‘high kill’ county animal shelter into a 99% no-kill shelter! Our volunteers work tirelessly to save the lives of the animals who find themselves in the county pound or on the streets.

Recently the county has opened the new Tri-County Animal Shelter. This animal shelter receives dogs and cats from Rowan, Fleming, Bath, and temporarily Carter counties. STAR has been instrumental in ensuring none of the animals will be euthanized due to the lack of space in the shelter.

We do this by finding these abandoned animals new homes via a rescue network across the US and Canada. STAR houses these animals, gets them the vet care they need, and facilitates the transport of these animals to their new loving homes.

Last year STAR found new homes for over 1200 animals who entered the county pound. That is over 1200 lives spared. We have rescued dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, and even chickens. STAR is also called upon to assist in abuse cases, hoarding situations, and cases of animal neglect. We take the animals from these deplorable conditions and get them the vet care they need to become happy, healthy pets.
