Raise the Appreciation of Diversity through Dissemination of Chinese Culture to Younger Generations

“My Heritage, My Culture” is a collective effort aiming at promoting cultural diversity and preserving Chinese culture among younger generations in Southern California. The ultimate goal is to increase the exposure of various components of the Culture hence the understanding of its values.  We believe the more cultural heritage is preserved, the more acceptance of diversity will take place.

How My Heritage, My Culture Works:

  1. Empower Chinese American to voice the values of Chinese heritage , culture as well as contribution:  We provide an environment for people who are interested in Chinese heritage, custom and culture to come to meet teachers, peers and different generations. This enables us to understand the what, who, why and how of the dissemination of the culture.  Through building partnership across schools and community organizations, we advocate equality and respect to cultural diversity.
  2.  Advocate diversity through educational programs: SCCCA continues looking for and working with talented people to offer learning activities in forms of community classes, clubs, and special workshops to people who are interested in learning Chinese culture. The art of Chinese calligraphy, folk dance, Wu Shu (martial art), strings and bamboo instruments, to name just a few, all bring out the pride of our heritage.
  3. Youth Ambassadors for Cultural Exchange: Provide center-based afterschool and weekend Chinese language classes for students K to 12th. We also have the capacity to provide teachers to go to public schools to teach Chinese and work with public schools’ Chinese programs. For high school students, Irvine Chinese School offers extracurricular credits of Chinese language that are recognized by various school districts throughout Orange County in southern California.

Heritage and Culture Preservation Is About You and Me

Your contribution will create more opportunities for the dissemination of Chinese culture in Southern California. The many forms of art and cultural stories play important roles in achieving world peace and harmony. Chinese and Asian Americans learn to love their heritage and culture so they are equipped to embrace the cross-cultures identity.

Southern California is one of the most diverse regions in the U.S. The Asian immigrants in particular and the general population are growing fast. How to keep the robust diversity is an essential part of community safety and harmony. SCCCA has a very special history in Orange County in Southern California. It began as a local Chinese School but has grown to become a vibrant Chinese Cultural Center - the largest on the West Coast. Vital to our accomplishments are generous support and donations of countless volunteers. Our programs rely on over 20,000 volunteer hours every year.

We strive to reach out to broader populations and to meet the emerging needs of our community. Together we can do more, every one of us can be an ambassador for My heritage, My Culture!
