The Society of Watercolor Artists (SWA) was founded in 1981 by 25 watercolor artists who wanted to share their enthusiasm, thirst for knowledge, and desire to promote an interest in the medium.  It was officially established as a non-profit incorporation on August 16, 1983, and it is operated completely by volunteers.

  • We meet monthly (except for the summer break from June to August) at the UNT Health Science Center on Camp Bowie Blvd (across from the Amon Carter Museum) with artist demonstrations and other art-relevant discussions.
  • We organize several 2- to 3-day-long workshops each year.  These workshops are conducted by accomplished artists in a small group setting with extensive demonstration and in-depth critique.
  • We also host two juried art exhibitions every year: one for members only, the other an international show open to all watercolor artists.

Our membership is composed of watercolor artists of different technical levels and various styles, mainly from Tarrant County and the surrounding area, as well as elsewhere in the State of Texas, across the United States, and Internationally.  The society has grown to over 400 members, and is continually looking for ways to introduce and enhance the popularity of watercolor painting in Fort Worth, Tarrant County and beyond.

SWA is supported financially by membership dues and donations.
